Description:
This is a conical, round base projectile for the 3" Ordnance Rifle that measures 6 3/4" in length and has a weight of 8 lbs. 14 oz. (4 Kg). According to the previous owner's notes and an old painted label on the side of the shell, it was dug at Fredericksburg, VA. The exterior of the shell has a dark brown patina interspersed with lighter brown throughout, and has a rough texture with green patinated brass fuze socket at the nose (the interior of the shell is drilled). The lead driving band has white splotches of oxidation under the overlying coat of protectant varnish. The shell is attractive and has a pleasant relic appearance that would make it a nice piece for display, or as a decorative accent for a gun room or study.
