Because of the limited production ability of the Colt Firearms Company to manufacture the newly adopted Model 1911 .45 Automatic at the outset of WWI, the New Service revolver, which was already being supplied to the British Government, was adapted to the .45 Automatic cartridge. This new variation with a 5 1/2 inch barrel and military finish was designated the Model of 1917, and over 150,000 were manufactured. This revolver is typical of the model, and retains 85% plus original blue finish and smooth walnut grips. The mechanics and bore are excellent. A very nice example of its type.
