Lang developed the Key Lock hand detachable action in 1910 undoubtedly to market oppo Holland's screw lever hand detachable locks.  The Lang system was certainly a more interesting and complicated system but short lived, likely a consequence of World War I.  In 1914, Lang entered into an agreement with Abercrombie to be the sole US importer of their shotguns for a five year period.  With the war having just begun, Lang's production in 1914 held at around 250 guns but production fell in 1915 the year this gun was made to only 170 guns.  The remaining four years of the Abercrombie agreement, Lang made only 86 guns total.  Detachable locks were never standard on all Lang guns but a "special" option or model thus their scarcity.  Many of these Key Lock guns seen do have the Abercrombie markings so undoubtedly someone at Abercrombie liked the design.  After the war, Lang moved to a Holland style long screw design through both locks but instead of a lever like Holland, utilized a lift-up circle hidden door as a grip point.  This was obviously a simpler and cheaper way to make a detachable lock gun.
