Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. 38-40. Octagon barrel. Excellent mechanics. Very nice wood. Here is a very honest 1873 Winchester. Has standard 24" octagon barrel. Caliber is the excellent shooting 38-40. S/N 367191 and made in 1891. The bore is about very good with strong rifling all the way through. Very little roughness and no big craters, rings or bulges. Shoots straight and is still plenty accurate. NO backed out primers or bulged cases. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects like it should with no problems. The metal is a smooth medium brown patina with some light pitting on the butt plate and a little on the left side of the forearm cap. The balance of the metal is smooth with no pitting. The top barrel flats by the caliber markings on the barrel looks to have been filed on a little bit. {see photos} Does not look like any vice marks but probably to remove some dents or dings as it is on the top flats and not the sides like you would see if they were vice marks removed. Does not look too bad. See close up photos of both sides of the barrel. It is what it is. The rest of the gun has never been messed with. Still has both front and rear original sights. Has the original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw. It is a little loose as most are and should be retracted by hand. The dust cover stop screw has been replaced and does not detract from this nice ole 73. The markings are good {see photos}. The .38 cal. marking on the brass carrier is mostly worn off as is common. The wood is very nice on this one and well above average. The forearm has NO splits or cracks and fits tight and proud to the metal. The butt stock has NO splits or cracks and fits tight and proud to the metal. {see photos}.. Just very nice wood on this one. Just a nice and honest ole 73 that snows normal use. Getting harder to find the larger caliber 73's with octagon barrels that I can sell for less than $2000.  This gun does not need $300 to $400 worth of parts and labor to shoot. It is ready to go. I will not be responsible for any one that does not have the proper knowkedge of loading and shooting any antique firearm. Please know what you are doing. These are NOT toys. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questiuons or more photos. Please check out my other listings while you are here as I may have something else of interest to you also.. Thank you for looking.
