Description:
Very nice authentic Civil War Dahlgren Bowie Bayonet dated 1863. Blade is in very good condition with a couple of flea bites that do not detract from its appearance at all and demonstrate that is was period used. Metal is mainly shiny grey with some age spotting. Detent pin and latch is missing. All of the right markings in the correct font of the period. USN DR 1863 on one side and can make out AM (cannot see the E or the S) Chicopee. Mass. on the opposite side. DR inspection mark on pommel. Blade measures at 11 3/4 inches and over 1/4 inch thick at the spine. Handle is just over 4 1/2 inches. This is a solid beefy Bowie with no play in the blade or handle. Priced right. More photos available upon request. Bought this one from the Pirates Lair site. Still showing the same knife on theirsite last time I checked. I just bought another one and cannot keep both of them. I have owned three of these and this is the best one.
