Description:
Serial #144. This is a post-'64, push-feed action used for engineering and/or ammunition testing. The receiver is hand stamped: “BOLT ACTION B/NO. 144" on the bridge, and retains about 75-80% of the original matte blue finish that has specks of mild brown freckling throughout. The bolt has a matching hand stamped marking on the body: “NO. 144/ONLY", and has a mottled gray patina with most of the original commercial quality blue remaining on the bolt shroud and cocking piece. The receiver itself has been rendered completely unserviceable by outwards deformation at the ring, a longitudinal crack through the metal along the left side, and a large section of the receiver ring itself missing along the upper right radius. These all appear to have been the result of structural failure when the action was fired with an overpowered load chambered. This is a very interesting Winchester collectible that would make a fine addition to any collection.
