Description:
PENDING SALE-This is a very well done replica of an 1870s-1882 Buffalo rifle of the Old West. It was produced for Navy Arms by the Davide Pedersoli company in Italy, still the finest Italian manufacturer of replica arms. The rifle is chambered in the 50-90 caliber, or the "Big Fifty" as it was called in the day.

Due to the popularity of shows such as Quigley Down Under, many think of the 1874 Sharps as the weapon used by the Buffalo hunters of the late 1800s. In truth, there were many Remington Rolling Block rifles, or "Rollers" in use during that time. The 50-90 is the same case as the 50-100 and 50-110. The numbers represent the caliber (50) and the grains of black powder (90, 100, 110) used in the load. Lighter bullets were used in the 50-100 and 50-110, but the 50-90 was the heavy bullet load used by the Buffalo hunters. The 50-90 was also the caliber used by Billy Dixon to fell an Indian at 1,538 yards at the 2nd battle of Adobe Walls.

This rifle was claimed to be unfired by the original owner, and it is certainly clean enough to offer that possibility. The rifle is equipped with simple barrel sights, but the rear tang is drilled and tapped to accommodate any of the Soule-type tang sights available today.
