Description: NSN, .72 Caliber, 42 inch barrel, fair smooth bore. This 1816 pattern musket was assembled using an English commercial lock stamped "London" with no initials under crown, marked "W & S.R" inside, that bears the markings of a conversion from flint. The drum and nipple-converted barrel breech is marked with a Massachusetts maker's mark: "LH" (either Lane & Hunnewell or Luke Harrington of Lane & Read); and "PM" (Massachusetts Proof). The musket is equipped with Model 1816 style bands and furniture but the hammer looks gunsmith-made. The walnut stock shows carved initials "ER" with E reversed. Metal surfaces show a dark patina while the wood has many dings and gouges scattered about the dark oil finish. A U.S. Model 1816 bayonet with altered socket is included. This is a very nice Massachusetts Militia musket with an appealing antique look. {Ref: "United States Martial Flintlocks" by Reilly; 1986} Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Mass.
