Description:
Serial #21918, .56-.52 Spencer RF, 22 1/4” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. The barrel retains 80-85% the original blue finish that has some mild surface freckling and a few scattered handling marks and blemishes. The frame has retained much of the original color case-hardening that has dulled slightly over time, and has some scattered mild freckling in spots. The walnut stock has a dark original oil finish with several small handling marks and blemishes, but the inspector cartouche is crisp and clear on the left side of the wrist. The barrel lock-up is still tight and the mechanism is fully functional. These metallic cartridge-adapted Gallagers were ordered and delivered in 1865 by the U.S. Government, but never saw service. The frame is identical to the percussion model externally with the only visible difference being the replacement of the nipple with a wide conical firing pin head. Many were sold as surplus to the French during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. This example is in fine-near excellent condition and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. Antique
