Description:
Serial #8738, .54 Caliber, 21” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a very small amount of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a very nice carbine that retains 60-70% of the original blue turning plum-brown on the barrel with some silvering at the muzzle. The hammer, receiver, and buttplate have developed a smooth, mottled gray-black patina with traces of the original, still bright fire blue finish remaining on the protected areas and especially on the sides of the breech block. Traces of the mottled original color case-hardening can also be seen on the frame. The walnut forend and buttstock have some small handling blemishes scattered about the newer oil finish, and the cartouches on the left side of the wrist are still quite clear and legible. The mechanical lock-up is solid and the action functions flawlessly. This is a very nice example of a Civil War Burnside in fine condition. Antique
