Serial #37XXX was manufactered in 1879 per the Cody letter which is included, and has a button, or 1/2 magazine. What makes this '73 unusual and collectible is that it has a scarce 24" full octagon barrel; button magazine rifles generally were made with round barrels. This piece is in excellent condition with what I will say is patina, but I believe there is 50% blue remaining. It has a thumbprint dust cover, an of-the-period tang sight, a bore I would rate 7-8, and a cleaning rod in the butt. The wood is nice and clean with no major mars or dings, but the front sight is an of-the-period replacement. It is available now for the first time in over 20 years. NRA rating: VERY GOOD: All original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised; bore disregarded for collectors firearms. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1873 Caliber Info: .44-40 |
