Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are extremely proud to offer this seldom seen example of Beretta's cape gun, the Combinato. I searched gun listings the world over, and there is no other for sale. It would be much easier to find a Stella, and the lofty SO6 is plentiful compared to this combination gun. There is one pictured in Wilson's Beretta book, and that one is plain Jane compared to this offering. She is in exquisite condition. The blue is rich and deep, the extraordinary Circassian walnut is gorgeous, and the engraving is simply amazing. This appears to be a pre-war model, as later guns bore the 402 model designation. Proof marks are likely from the 1920's, and that is about as close as we can get to a production date. I called Beretta, and they simply had no record on the "early" guns. Since Beretta started producing cannon barrels in 1520, and is the oldest family owned business in the world, 400 years into production isn't very old. This one is chambered in 16 gauge and 10.4 x 47mm. That rifle cartridge was the official caliber of the Italian army from 1870 to 1887. Out of vogue as smaller, faster rounds developed, we can only speculate that a young soldier made good in the world and ordered the caliber he once carried in uniform. The round pictured will be included in this sale, and modern loads are available by the box. Both 70cm barrels are nigh pristine inside and out, and utilize Beretta's proven monoblock system. There is tremendous shine and strong rifling in the rifle bore, and a mirror bore on the shotgun side. There is a 23 thousandths restriction, which is modified in a 16 gauge. The matted rib is topped with a single bead, and 2 folding leaf sights put the rifle on target at 50 and 100 meters. Beautiful rebounding hammers fire your choice. The lever resides to the right of center, and she locks up tight. Nicely timed screws add another facet to its beauty. The original skip line checkering denotes the quality of this gun, and feels great on the slender wrist. The figure and fit of the wood is amazing, and only has minor handing marks. Only the stellar engraving can distract you from the furniture. The contrast between the delicate Italian scroll and deep relief acorns and leaves is stunning. My photos do not begin to capture the true beauty of this double, and everyone who has seen it in person says it tops the list for striking guns. if you like the photos, she will look better in your hands. Make no mistake, this is one of the finest, most unique guns I have ever offered. The LOP is 14 inches to the horn butt plate, and drops are 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inches. She tips the scales at 8 pounds. This cape gun comes from a longtime collector, and it has been very well preserved. If you believe you are the ultimate Beretta collector, step forward and claim your prize. Reasonable offers and trades accepted. This gun is selling on the gun listing that rhymes with funjoker this week. If you want it, you must bid.
