Description:
Winchester Model 1873. Serial number 18211, Manufactured in 1876. First model with the early thumb print dust cover. Chambered in 44-40. Special order features include: Extra length 26" octagon barrel and set trigger. This rifle also has a 1/2 nickel finish. Fit and finish is consistent with Winchester plating, but it is not called out on the factory letter. All assembly numbers are intact and match as shown in the photos. Serial number search information from the Cody museaum for this rifle is shown below. Frame, lever, carrier, butt plate and fore end cap retain a good amount of nickel with flaking and areas of freckling rust. Barrel and magazine tube retain a smooth, balanced patina. Mechanically excellent with a very good bore; defined rifling with small areas of frost and pitting. Wood has minor dings and marks, and two small cracks which are shown in the photos. What a great find! Pre 1899 Antique. Will ship direct, no FFL required.
