Description:
Serial #317725, .45-70, 32 1/2” barrel with a very good, bright bore that has a small amount of pitting near the muzzle. This ramrod bayonet-equipped rifle has an overall mottled pewter gray patina with speckled, dark freckling throughout. The 1884 dated breech block has about 85-90% of a newer blued finish remaining. The walnut stock has been refinished to excellent condition with a few scattered handling marks in added military oil finish. There is no visible cartouche, and there is a small, but stable, crack on the left side of the wrist that runs through the rear lock screwhead bolster. The stock compartment contains original cleaning tools, and the buttplate has a darker mottled plum-brown patina with a few very minor pinprick pits here and there. This is a very nice Trapdoor that rates about very good overall. Antique
