Description: NSN, .58 caliber, 40” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This handsome Civil War musket has an 1862 dated lockplate with a correct, 1862 dated barrel that has crisp “V/P/(eagle)” proofs on the left side of the breech. The metal has a fine, armory bright finish, but does exhibit some mild surface freckling on the hammer and lockplate. There is some mild pitting on the nipple, but the bolster is clear, and there is some further minor freckling on the head of the correct tulip-head ramrod. The walnut stock is likewise in fine condition with a crisp original military oil finish and only very light handling marks. Additionally, there is a series of very minor surface chips on the left side of the comb (barely visible through an added area of dark oil finish that matches the original oil very closely). The musket comes with an original leather musket sling that, although lightly crazed along its length, is still supple, intact, and fully serviceable. This is a fine example of a correct, and desirable, U.S. Civil War musket and would make a great addition to any collection.
