Description:
Model 1860 Colt Army 44 cal. single action percussion pistol. Numbers matching with framed letter of authentication from Colt manufacturing Historian. Serial number 44780 was sold to Col. D.D. Tompkins Asst. Quartermaster New York. Shipped to Lt. Col. G.D. Ramsay Washington Arsenal June 13, 1862 as part of a 500 gun shipment. The gun is in good condition and working order with obvious wear from quite a bit of service. The cylinder cartouche, cylinder script, barrel script, and handgrip script are no longer visible except for a couple of remnants of the cylinder scene. The serial numbers are all visible to the naked eye and match. The exception is the barrel lock key which has no number but, shows similar wear consistant with the rest of the gun. May have been replaced early in the life of the gun exhibiting same manufacturing characteristics and wear of comparable models of this time period.
