SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1868 TRAPDOOR .50-70 CAL. INFANTRY RIFLE. All original in fine condition with all matching parts and serial numbers in the 2x,xxx range. Probable State Militia rack number in the 2xxx range on the right breech of barrel. Very handsome with nice metal patina and crisp markings. Beautiful “EAGLE” and “U.S. /SPRINGFIELD” on lock. Breechblock dated “1869” with “EAGLE PROOF/U.S.”. Excellent stock with the original dark finish nicely patinated. Fine “P” circular cartouche on stock to rear of trigger guard. Exceptional bore and perfect working order. Very hard to find with many sold off in Europe as surplus after the introduction of the .45-70. Nice example.
