Description:
This ole' gal has been around the block a few times. Dated 1812 on the lock plate and butt-plate the hammer still full cocks, and the half cock is not working. The barrel with heavy brown patina is 35 1/2" long with a narrow dovetail front sight and an added rear sight looks like a lump, but might be worn down. Bore is good and has some recent surface corrosion.This gun hasn't been messed with in over 100+ years. Butt-stock has a 19th century anchor, letter J, and a star engraved on it long ago.these were converted in the South at the out break of the Civil War, as there was a severe shortage of useable arms available for battle. As is often the case the stock broke from repeated barrel dis assemblies to thoroughly clean the gun, and the wood is missing up to the back band. I find these guns in attics and the family members aren't quite sure how long they've been there, or how they've gotten there. During wartime battle field pick-ups were common to send back home!
