Description:
NSN, .577 Snider, 19” barrel with a very good bore that has some light freckling within the grooves. This rifle has an overall plum-brown patina with mild fading to gray in spots along the barrel, and traces of blue remaining on the breechblock hinge. There is a further plum-brown patina on the 1861 dated, Enfield lock with areas of pinprick pitting and dark freckling (mostly present around the base of the hammer). The brass trigger guard and unit marked buttplate have a dark yellow-ochre patina with “44/63” stamped into the buttplate tang. The barrel has of course been shortened, but has a nicely crowned muzzle, and a new ramped front sight base fitted. The shortened walnut stock has numerous handling marks and surface blemishes throughout under a slightly glossy oil finish with a well-fitted ramrod channel plug at the nose. This is a great looking Snider in carbine length, and is in very good plus condition overall. Antique
