This rifle has an overall freckled brown patina on the barrel and receiver with some light fading at the muzzle and on the raised and exposed edges. The low-arch breechblock likewise has a matching ruddy-brown patina, but does have bright original color case-hardening on the underside. This freckled gray-brown patina continues on the hammer and lockplate. The walnut stock has scattered small handling marks and bruises in the otherwise fine military oil finish and a still relatively crisp “SWP/1884” cartouche is present on the left side of the wrist. The rifle is accompanied by a Model 1873 socket bayonet in matching condition with even, brown freckling throughout, as well as some spots of dark oxidation within the hollow ground back flutes. This is a very nice example of a U.S. Trapdoor rifle overall, and comes with a handsome, matching condition accessory. Shoud make a great shooter or wall piece.
