Description:
S# 13039, 41 Swiss rimfire, 32 3/4 inch barrel, bright excellent bore. This American built Swiss 1867 military rifle remains in very good condition with Swiss serial 3919 on barrel and both stock pieces. Typical Swiss proofs and acceptance marks also show on barrel and wood. Barrel shows a dark patina with perhaps 25% blue. Bands and action show a mottled grey-brown patina. Wood wears a little added finish and shows several age checks in butstock. Butplate shows oxidation damage with some pitting. This gun appears unaltered, most were rebuilt with Swiss barrels and action parts. Barrel bottom and action face show original Peabody serial number. barrel has three wide grooves and action has the thin style extractor. The ramrod tip is misshapen, rod fits well and appears original. A very good example of a military contract Peabody rifle with a great bore. Antique
