Description: Browning Superposed Lightning 20 Gauge Over & Under FANTASTIC WOOD, LTRK, IC/M General Specs: Browning, Belgium, Year 1965, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 5oz, O/U Serial Number: 39996V5 This is the venerable Browning Superposed Lightning Model in Grade 1 with hard to find field chokes. Most of these guns are found with skeet chokes and are less desirable. As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the long tang, round knob guns built before 1966. And as with all lovers of fine firearms, the Browning guys really pay attention to guns with extraordinary wood figure for the grade. LOOK AT THE FACTORY ORIGINAL WOOD ON THIS GUN. It is the best I have ever seen and worth a considerable extra investment when compared to guns with plain jane wood. This Superposed, sn39996V5 was built in 1965. The Lightning Model was considerably lighter than the Standard model, making it a superb upland bird gun for carrying long distance and long hours. This 6lb. 5oz. gun is all factory original and still retains about 99% overall condition with the metal closer to 100%, and the original length stock with factory horn butt plate. COMES IN THE PROPER VINTAGE HARTMAN CASE. Guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because of the manner in which Browning cured their wood. Not all guns were affected, but the market place still has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs, and some even with square knob pistol grips. This is a great upland gun that is balanced to perfection and light enough to carry all day afield. The value of these earlier Superposed guns continues to climb, so you can invest in this gun and enjoy its use as it gains value. Thanks for looking!
