Description: NSN, .62 Caliber (approx. 20 Bore), 31" octagonal breech barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore that has a linear scratch along the right side. This is a nice looking reconverted gun that has a plum-brown patina on the barrel with some visible twist patterning and lines of silvering along the edges of the faceting behind the wedding band transition. The breech is hallmarked "STOCKER/YEOVIL" on the top flat in gold and has two platinum encircling bands as well with moderate-heavy pitting at and around the touch hole. The "STOCKER" marked lockplate has some cleaning and repair marks around the relatively new and unblemished pan and also has some engraved game bird embellishments behind the plain swan-necked cock. The lock is functional but the frizzen is rather loose when opened. The half-length walnut stock has an added varnish over numerous scattered small handling marks and bruises including several small cracks and chips along the edges of the barrel channel and a few larger cracks that run through the new replacement lock screw bolster. The barrel is fastened by a single wedge with plain octagonal escutcheons. There is an ornately engraved triggerguard that has a dark brown patina, a pineapple finial, and a faintly visible running dog vignette along the exterior of the bow. The checkering is still visible and the buttstock, which has a rounded cheek-piece, has numerous small handling marks and blemishes with a faintly scratched name on the left side: "J.H. Brown". The gun comes with a replacement wooden ramrod held by two plain thimbles and ridged tail-pipe. George Stocker operated in Yeovil, Somerset from 1821 to 1830. This is a nice gun in about very good condition and would make a nice decorative or display piece.
