Description:
If you can restore this rifle to its former glory, you will own a $2500- plus piece for a nominal sum and have a story to tell with lots of braging rights. The stock (tiger stripe maple) was broken in 3 places. An old original metal repair patch on the left side still holds. The other parts were glued and must be redone as the barrel doesn't quite fit properly in the stock.I imagine the glue could be heated and the wood moved to proper allignment. The barrel is octagonal and 36" long.  There is no patch box or ramrod but otherwise I believe all parts are present: the famous Gloucher lock marked as such along with inscriptions of a dog and bird; a fancy engraved brass trigger guard; a 36" long 36 cal.  heavy octogon barrel with at least 75% of its original dark finish; a 1&1/4" bolt and 2 pins to secure the barrel to the stock; . Most of the wood loss is along the right side of the barrel and behind the lock. I would love to do this job myself, but after buying the tools I thought I would need ( primarily a type of heating iron used to melt shellac sticks to fill in where needed), I decided I was not  that much of a craftsman and at the age of almost 80 it was probably a little late in life to learn. Should be a fun project for the right person, and it could be a very profitable one. The Gloucher lock alone  is worth my asking price.
