Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin in 38-40 octagon barrel with a very nice bore. Here is a very good 1889 Marlin. Is in the excellent shooting 38-40 caliber. My favorite caliber for shooting... S/N  74034 and made in 1892.. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. Has a very nice and strong bore with some shine but spots of normal light roughness at the chamber end but nothing bad at all.  NO rings or bulges.. It shoots great and still very accurate. The mechanics are excellent... Both safety and full cock notches on the hammer are positive and just where they should be. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. The metal is smooth throughout but shows some mild roughness on the upper tang. {see photo}. Nothing bad or detracting. Just traces of factory original blue on the barrel in the protected areas and some sort of blue on the top of the receiver. Does not look like factory blue and almost looks like some kind of coating of some sort.  It can be removed easily if so desired but I will not mess with it. The gun is pretty much untouched and never messed with or cleand on in any way. The over all condition of the metal is real nice medium brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. Has the original front and rear sights. All the markings are excellent...  All the screws are very nice and not all burred up {see photo}.. The wood is very nice also. The forearm has no splits or cracks and fits very tight and proud to the metal all around... Still has great color and not oil soaked. It does however show what looks like the letter E on the right side towards the front and some dings on the bottom of what one looks like an H.??? {see photos}... The butt stock is very nice with no splits or cracks and fits very tight and proud to all the metal. Stiill has great color also and not oil soaked. None of the wood has ever been sanded on or mess with but for the issues mentioned above... It is what it is.. Still very nice wood on this one. This ole 89 is a very nice gun that has not been fooled with and has no issues other than the marks on the forearm. Just adds character from some ole cowboy that had nothing better to do sitting around the camp fire. It realy does not detract that much from the gun but I still have it priced with this in mind. It ain't perfect as none are in this price range but still has another 100 plus years of life in'er. These Marlins are very well made guns and seen the same use as the Winchesters but at about half the price. They are becoming very collectible and I will buy all I can get my hands on at reasonable prices. $50 insured double boxed shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
