Merwin-Hulbert Co. . 4th Model DA "Frontier" Revolver - Cal. .44-40 - 5 1/2" Bbl. - 6 shot - SN 4633 (early 1880s). all matching on frame and cylinder - folding hammer and square butt with lanyard ring. - left side of frame is faintly marked "Calibre Winchester 1873". Bore is excellent - bright with sharp rifling and a very few areas of light spotting, mostly at the breech end - action is excellent with perfect timing and lock-up in DA and SA.. Metal is very good or better overall and retains 80% + original factory nickel finish that shows some wear - with flaking and light spotting, mostly on the left side and on the cylinder and some mild corrosion is evident on the top strap above the cylinder, on the barrel in front of the cylinder and on the lower portions of the frame below the cylinder. Barrel markings are partially worn and light and frame marking is faint but visible The hard rubber grips are undamaged with sharp checkering and logo. These early DA M-H revolvers were a very popular sidearm in the early West due to their large caliber, ruggedness, ease of loading, and reliability, especially in the longer barrel lengths. This early M-H :Frontier" is all original,and unaltered , fully functional in the most desirable .44-40 caliber and in Fine or better condition overall and will make a super addition to an Old West collection.
