The bore is near perfect - bright with sharp rifling - one minor rough spot - action is excellent with perfect timing and lock up. Metal is excellent overall with sharp markings and no rust, pits, or corrosion - proper sub inspector markings on barrel and frame. Barrel retains about 60% blue thinning to a brownish patina beneath and retains sharp edges - the frame, cylinder, and back strap have drifted to a dark gray patina - the brass guard has a nice mellow tone. The walnut grips are undamaged with perfect fit to the frame, a sharp cartouche, and retain about 85% finish. This "Old Model Navy" has the Beals patent frame and the channel in the loading lever to accomodate removal of the cylinder pin without dropping the lever and has the cone-style front sight. There were about 7000 of this model produced in 1862-1863 and nearly all went to the government,. A very scarce early Remington 1861 Navy as very few were produced and fewer still have survived the years.
