Description:
Serial #17502, .54 Caliber, 21” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome carbine that retains 95-97% of the original blue on the barrel which has only a small amount of fading and freckling at the muzzle and a few hints of a mild, plum-brown patina along the barrel itself. The frame has retained 70-80% of the original color case-hardening which blends smoothly into a smoothly mottled pewter gray patina on the balance. The lever, breech block, and wrist tangs have 90-92% of their bright, nitre blue finish remaining as well. The sling bar and ring have an overall slightly freckled bright gray patina. The walnut forend and buttstock have only a few small handling blemishes scattered about the period-added oil finish, but the cartouches on the left side of the wrist are crisp and clear. The mechanical lock-up is solid and the action functions flawlessly. This is a splendid example of a Civil War Burnside in excellent original condition and would be a substantial upgrade for most collections. Antique
