Description:
Serial #673, 7mm Mauser, 18” shrouded barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a few hints of minor freckling within the groves. This is a 1907 dated carbine that has 85% plus of the original blue finish on the barrel shroud and magazine housing/trigger guard. Most of the finish loss occurs on the breech end of the shroud where the original rear ladder sight was removed, and on the receiver. The matching numbered bolt has an armory bright finish with some traces of freckling on the butter-knife handle, and some further light finish loss on the bolt shroud. A Lyman M-S aperture rear sight is installed on the left rear of the receiver. The full-length walnut stock is in fine condition overall, with a few scattered small handling marks and surface blemishes, but is otherwise quite handsome and intact. These carbines were manufactured in various chamberings as a commercial venture by C.G. Haenel at the turn of the last century. The 7mm Mauser examples found a ready market in Central and South America, yet are not very commonly seen today. This example was turned into a “poor man's” Mannlicher sporting rifle at some point, but is still in very good overall condition. FFL or C&R
