Description: Serial #906, .45 Colt, 5 3/4” octagon barrel with a very good-fine, bright bore that has some traces of light freckling within the grooves. The metal of this handsome revolver has retained about 75% of the original blue, mostly at the breech-end of the barrel, within the cylinder flutes, and along the left rear portion of the frame. The balance of the metal has developed a pewter gray and plum-brown patina with some scattered mild freckling, as well as a few areas of mild pinprick pitting, most noticeably on the right rear portion of the frame and on the left side of the barrel about midway down. The barrel rib is retailer marked: “ARMY & NAVY C.S.L.”; and the Webley “Winged Bullet” trademark is crisp and clear on the left side of the frame. A previous owner has engraved his name in crisp block capitals on the left breech of the barrel. Despite the post-1925 applied, supplemental Birmingham .455 .760” (.455 Mk. VI) proof marks, the revolver has been rechambered to .45 Colt, and the individual chambers have been expertly chamfered for the longer Colt cartridge. The checkered English walnut grips are assembly numbered to the gun on the interior (926) with both panels exhibiting some light surface wear, and mild flattening of the points. There are some further surface scratches and minor blemishes on the butt as well. The lock-up is still quite tight, although there is a very small amount of lateral play, and the mechanism is fully functional. This is a great looking, and rarely seen antique Webley that would make a great addition to any collection. {Ref: “The Webley Story” by William Chipchase Dowell; 1962} Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Webley Model: Kaufmann Serial Number: 906 Caliber Info: .45 LC Gauge Info: .45 LC |
