Description:
This is a very rare dagger that measures 14 1/2" overall with a 10 1/4" straight, double-edged blade. The blade itself has a bright original polish with ALCOSO scale trademark etched onto the reverse forte. The tang is numbered 92 under the grip and there are scabbard marks along the central flats as well as some small spots of freckling at the tip. The hilt furniture is numbered 136 and retains about 20-30% of the original gold finish, mostly on protected areas. The gold is bright where it remains while the balance of the exposed underlying metal has developed a dark ochre patina that has spots of ruddy brown mixing with a plum-black patina. The wooden grip with faux mother-of-pearl panels is in fine condition; intact without any chips or cracks and the eagle guard has some nice bright gold finish remaining on the underside. The original pebbled metal scabbard has approximately 85-90% of its original gold wash finish remaining with a dark ochre patina on the exposed surfaces where the finish has worn. These exceedingly rare daggers were all manufactured by the ALCOSO firm so, even though the blade on this example doesn't have a matching number, it is a correct blade for the type. This is a great opportunity for the Third Reich edged weapon collector to acquire a rare gold official's dagger in very good plus condition. {Ref.
