Description:
SOLD...Antique Smith & Wesson 2nd model SA. Here is a decent Smith & Wesson 2nd model SA revolver. It is in the .38 S&W caliber. S/N 16715 and all matching of course. Very early 2nd model S/N and probably first year production 1877. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel. This old revolver still has some finish. The frame has about  85% original nickel finish including the front and rear grip straps. The cylinder has about 65% and the barrel just maybe 10%. The balance of the metal is a medium gray patina with some scattered spotting. It is not all pitted up and is smooth. The mechanics are excellent. A very crisp and tight gun. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge area. The grips are very nice with no cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit. They do show some wear to the checkering as they do on a well used gun. The bore is good with strong rifling with some roughness from black powder but still very shootable with proper black powder loads. The chambers are very nice and clean with no pitting. The case colors on the hammer have faded to a brown patina and no blue left on the barrel latch. The markings are all excellent. Nothing special here but a dcent little S&W that shows some actuall use but no abuse. Would make a great shooter with proper loads of course and you would not have to worry about putting a scratch on a $800 plus high condition example. Priced very reasonable.
