Description: SOLD...Antique 1886 Winchester. 45-90 caliber. Very good bore. Here is a very nice antique 1886 Winchester. Is in the very sought after caliber 45-90. Cody work sheet matches and all is correct. S/N 110831 and made in 1897 so is antique. Has the standard 26" round barrel. The bore is very good. Has strong rifling all the way through and still has some shine mixed with some very light roughness from black powder. NO big pits or craters and NO rings or bulges. It shoots great of course. The barrel still shows a good 60% bright blue. {see photos}. I tried to get good photos of the blueing in natural sun light. The sweat bees were attacking me so you might see one or two in the photos.!!!! Has case colors on the bottom tang.[see photo} The balance of the barrel and mag tube is a gray color patina with a few spots of surface crud here and there but no pitting. The receiver has silvered out and shows some spots of light surface crud also but no pitting. Case colors still visible on the lower tang as mentioned above. The bolt still shows all the blue. All the markings are excellent. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds good but you do have to run the action like you mean it with some authority like most all lever action rifles. It does feed and fire and the ejection is perfect and very strong. The small spring loaded lever retainer that locks the lever up in place is a little weak but the lever does not droop. The spring is just a little weak and does not effect the function of the gun at all.The hammer notches are perfect on the safety and full cock positions. Original front and rear sights. The wood is very nice also. The forearm has NO splits or cracks and fits tight and proud to the metal all around. Has a few honest dings and scratches and an oil soak line on the right side but never sanded on or messed with. The butt stock is very good and has NO splits or cracks and fits tight to the metal. Does have a few deeper dings on the right side right above the lever and the normal dings and scratches found on a honest used rifle. I do not think the butt plate is original as is does not have the curve at the toe but I might be wrong as this is a later 1897 MFG. Looks like the toe of the butt plate has some file marks on it also. I can send photos of this area if you need to see it. It is not bad at all and could be cleaned up if so desired. The screw heads all look very nice and sharp and not all burred up from tinkering. I think this is well above average 1886 and it is in the very best caliber beside the 50 express. It has a lot of the original blue remaining on the barrel and very nice traces of case color. The bore is very nice as well. It ain't perfect by any means but most are not in this price range !!!! I see these things priced all over the place but I will price this one at what I think is fair.
