An original Colt Lightning pump action rifle in Caliber 44-40 with the rare open top receiver. The rifle has been in a local family since it was purchased new in 1887 by a physician in Chicago, this doctor hunted at Boyds Mason Lake Resort in Wisconsin that is still in operation! It has come time that the rifle be sold for lack of heirs wanting it. The Colt is a full length, round barrel with the open top breach exhibiting approximately 50% original blue with greay-brown patina. The barrel is mostly smooth brown patina with traces of blue. The 15 shot magazine tuble has almost all it's original blue with some patina. The wood is good with some marks and gouges, the forearm is finely checked and in near perfect condition.The amazing part is the bore that is shiny and bright, no pits or rust when using a bore light!. The butt plate is mostly brown patina with grey and NO rust or pitting.The rifle has the Hartford address with the 1883 Patent date only, serial number is 184XX, 1887. Overall this is just an amazing old Colt Lightning with a wonderful family history of over care, polishing with oil cloth and kept in a dry area for over 100 years! This certainly contributes to the excellent original condition of the rifle. NO FFL REQUIRED.Please ask questions and don't hesitate to ask for photos of a specific area.
