This is an 1896 dated, Enfield-made rifle that has about 90% of the original blue finish remaining with some mild fading and silvering along the exposed edges and projections, as well as flaking along the top of the left receiver wall. The bolt was armory renumbered to the rifle, and has a commensurate amount of blue along with some further fading on the bolt, and the curved edges of the cocking piece and safety. The barrel band and nosecap have worn to a mottled gray color along the edges with the original blue remaining on the balance, and the magazine, which matches the condition of the rifle, is still chined in place. The walnut stock and forend are in fine overall condition with scattered minor surface scuffs and blemishes in the otherwise excellent armory re-applied oil finish with some slight damage along the ramrod channel (correct for a Mk. I Lee Enfield), and crisp and legible ordnance cartouches. The Canadian “M&D” stamp is quite crisp and there is a fairly extensive unit stamp on the brass buttplate tang: “26/132”. An excellent, buff leather sling is included which is still supple and serviceable and has only mild dirt staining. This is a wonderful Canadian “Long Lee” in fine-near excellent condition and would make a fabulous addition to a collection.
