Description:
Serial #L66466, .303 British, 25" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some light freckling within the grooves. This import marked rifle has both government property and Birmingham proof marks and is dated 1939 on the wrist with the metal retaining about 45-50% of the original blue that has blended smoothly with an overall gray patina mixing with plum-brown on the balance as well as having some lightly faded and freckled gray metal along the underside of the nosecap and the remaining exposed edges and projections. Mild freckling is present in dark patches on the non-matching bolt and there is some minor pinprick pitting on the handle. The walnut handguards and forend have numerous small handling marks and small blemishes under the old added military oil finish, heaviest on the bolt body itself. The buttstock is devoid of government property markings or stamps and the stock disk is missing. A single 10 rd. magazine is included. This is a very good plus example of a commercially made SMLE that was impressed into government service during World War II and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
