Description:
Serial #341476, .45-70, 22” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome carbine that has retained 85-90% of the original blue that has blended smoothly into a mild plum-brown patina along the barrel. The “US/MODEL/1873” marked breechblock retains most of the original bright color case-hardening, and the lock and hammer have some minor gray fading in their ortherwise excellent original blue. The walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes under an armory added military oil finish that has left the “SWP/1889” cartouche clear and legible. Small bruises are present along the sides of the butt, and there is a small chip missing from the left hand side at the top of the rear sling bar screw bolster. The stock compartment is vacant, and there are some further small checks and marks around the butt. The first type front sight cover is in excellent condition, as is the Buffington rear sight. This is a fine original Trapdoor carbine overall, that has tight mechanics, handsome original finish, and would make a nice addition to any collection. Antique
