Description:
This is a 1940 dated clock, ref. no. 6A/1072, with faint S.S. & S. Ltd. maker's marking on the face. The black Bakelite, “(crown)/AM” (Air Ministry) marked housing is in excellent condition with only some minor surface scratches marring the exterior while the original crystal has some smudging and a functional set of original red painted elapsed time dummy hands. The dial has the usual light brown age degradation to the radium on the indices, even numbered hour markers, and on the hands. The movement, which is a copy of the Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 201, is functional, but does require a service since it tends to stop running if left alone. These clocks, along with the Mk. II/C models which had a sweep second hand, were mounted in RAF Hawker Typhoons among others. This is a great piece of World War II aviation memorabilia, and also an interesting horological piece as well. It would make a great desk clock once it's been fully serviced.
