Description:
Serial #X35007, .303 British, 25” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid, 1945 dated, “M47C” marked (BSA Shirley), Holland & Holland converted, “S51” marked rifle that has 90-92% of the mixed stippled Suncorite and blue finish remaining with single staked scope pads, correct “T” and “TR” stamps, and post-war London proofs. There is some fading of the blue on a few of the high edges and bearing surfaces, mainly at the muzzle and on the matching numbered bolt, while the black receiver has some commensurate fading along the edges and projections. The stocks and handguards have crisp stamps in the armory re-applied oil finish (including the matching serial number on the inside lip of the buttstock, matching number on the forend, and the non-matched scope number on the top of the wrist) and only scattered very minor surface blemishes here and there. The rifle has a mismatched mount and an excellent, 1945 dated, A. Kershaw & Sons Ltd. marked, No. 32 Mk. III telescopic sight (serial #23135) with intact painted red “W” (waterproof) on the tube behind the functional adjustment knobs. The center section of the tube retains its original blue finish, while the remainder of the scope has a black painted Suncorite finish with exposed brass on the end of the objective lens housing. The optics are still clear and the post and line reticle is crisp and intact, although there are some small specks visible on the ocular plane. The rifle is equipped with a proper canvassling, a single unnumbered magazine, and a set of original, 1944 dated, brown leather lens covers. This is a terrific example of a No. 4 (T) and would make a great addition to any collection. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield – A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R
