Considered to mostly have been produced by Orison Blunt (of Blunt & Syms) these Metropolitan handguns, both the ’51-Navy, ’61-Navy, and the ’62-Police were just about identical copies of the Colt revolvers of the same model. They started up in the mid-Civil War period after Colt suffered a large factory fire, and lasted from 1864-1866 when law suits brought by Colt against Metropolitan were fought, delayed, postponed, and appealed. Metropolitan finally lost but still cranked out a few guns while taking advantage of the lack of good communications in that time. This particular Metropolitan is near “Fine” condition with liberal amounts of thinning blue and a very nice overall look. It has fine mechanics and bore, and shows no abuse at all. VG++ to near Fine overall. A scarce revolver, less than 3000 ever made. $1495 .....SALE!! $1350 SOLD Antique: Yes |
