Ansley H. Fox got it right with the small bore Fox, the smallest, most well proportioned, most reliable of all the vintage American double shotguns. If you examine a standard Parker or Featherweight L.C. Smith in 16 gauge they will tip the scales at 6 1/2 to 7 lbs. This little Fox weighs just 6lbs. 2oz. and balances perfectly just ahead of the hinge pin. Ansley Fox built all of his 16ga. guns on diminutive 20ga. frames, so unlike Parker where you search for the "O" frame 16ga. (20ga frame) and pay an extra $1000 for it, we already have the perfect 16! This gun, sn301046 made in 1922, has 95% of its original case color, perfect screws and mechanics, newly restored and nicely figured original wood, good stock dimensions to a factory butt plate, and little sign of use. All parts are original to the gun and only the wood and barrels have had new finish in the past 93 years. Fox ejector small bores in original condition are difficult to find in today's market place as all of the good ones have been tucked away for the owner's pleasurable use, investment in tangible assets, and to hand down to the next generation. Prices have gone up significantly because of this, and will continue to do so. You all know I handle A LOT of fine shotguns and the Fox is simply the best of the main 6 American makers. This particular gun is one of the nicest AE Grade 16's I have seen in a long time. This gun matches the factory order card to the "T", unaltered since leaving the factory with the exception of restored barrels and wood. This gun is up to the task of modern ammo and fine upland hunting or vintage clays. What a great way to own a fine shotgun; use it and the value goes up.
