Description:
This is the full length rifle with 33" bbl and full length musket style wood. Marked on the receiver is the Peabody patent and manufactured by Providence Tool Company. Rather interesting is that this gun has British proof marks. Also a cartouche on the stock. We believe this to be in cal 43 Spanish. Peabody did ship quite a few rifles and carbines to different countries. This one ended up with English proof marks but England was not a major country that ordered a bunch of rifles. There is also the number 75 on the lower bbl band which would be some sort of a rack mark. Overall cond is VG with some case colors remaining on the frame. The rest is turning an antique grey/brown. Very nice aged blue on the bbl. Metal is nice and smooth. Stock is also in VG cond with the normal handling marks. Bore has good rifling and somewhat shiny. Scattered pitting in areas. Good to VG overall cond bore. Action is nice and tight. Hammer and trigger function very well. Interesting rifle.
