FINE FRENCH CHASSEPOT MODEL 1866 BOLT ACTION 11 MM NEEDLE FIRE MILITARY RIFLE W/ BAYONET. Original and matching as issued during the Franco-Prussian War. In the very hard to find “NEEDLE FIRE” configuration with the needle still in good order. Cartridge primer affixed to a sabot behind the bullet and the needle traveled thru the cartridge to strike the primer and detonate it. Most converted to center fire and the few surviving one often have the needles corroded and broken. Fine or better overall with fine original finish mixed with patina on metal and stock. Stock cartouche dated 1873 and barrel stamped “S 1873” as well. Fine “ST. ETIENNE” arsenal marking on receiver as well “MLE. 1866”. Perfect working order and mint bore. Original ramrod. Saber bayonet dated 1871 with scabbard both in excellent condition. The nicest one of these we have seen. Superior in every respect.
