The serial number is 1139 and the barrel is matching number 1139 and was probably made in 1864 or early 1865. It could have been a great sniper rifle for the Army. The bore is very good with strong rifling but does have frosting. This is 56 grains of black powder and a 46-caliber rimfire cartridge. S&S Firearms has centerfire breach blocks for them. 50-70 brass can be sized and necked down to reload ammunition. Originally Springfield Armory as a possible military cartridge developed the 56-46 cartridge in early 1864. It was a good choice for a sporting cartridge with a 330-grain lead bullet and 45 grains of black powder, which propelled it to about 1210 feet per second. This was refinished and the case colors and blue are beautiful and the wood butt stock is near excellent and the front wood has an old repair. It has a weight of 11 pounds 8 ounces. This is a fantastic rifle and is quite rare being a sporter. I would consider trades for pre 1899 ANTIQUE PISTOLS and rifles on any of my items.. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO TRADE?
