ADAMS PERCUSSION CONVERSION JOHNSON MODEL 1836 PISTOL CIRCA 1861-3. 8 ½” round .54 cal. smoothbore barrel. Distinctive bolster conversion with very unique shape that denotes one of the 570 pistols he converted to percussion from old flintlock pistols owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia and in storage at the Richmond Armory at the beginning of the Civil War. Adams received payment for the work by the Commonwealth of Virginia early in November 1861. The bolster is also recognizable by the visible pin extending to the outer base and measuring about 1/3”. Underside of the barrel with Adam’s characteristic Roman numeral assembly number’s. Confederate replacement oversize ramrod stirrup. Lock also a typical commercial hand fitted substitute done by Adams at the time of the conversion. Many thousands of flintlock arms were altered by Adams during the War but the pistols are very scarce. Many of these are known to have been issued to the North Carolina Cavalry early in the War. Absolutely authentic and never on the market before. SOLD Antique: Yes |
