Description:
#1498 Germanic 1850-1860s era rifled percussion musket conversion to trade fowler or “buck-n-ball” gun. Looks like a Postdam style military longarm that was later converted for a cheap frontier weapon, as it has a 36” rifled barrel with the wide lands common in that period, although with a barrel about the thickness of a modern-day shotgun, it would seemingly be rather dangerous to be used with a solid projectile …plus the recoil on such a light barrel would be horrendous! The bore, while having scattered light pitting the full length, does still have pretty decent rifling and the action seems solid and tight. The exterior has an even brownish-grey patina on good metal; the wood has several well-done repairs but looks to be very solid and serviceable. After the blessings of a competent black-powder gunsmith, this should be a good fowling piece for those into the “Rendesvous Reinacting” as well as a GREAT wall-hanger in someones Man-Cave or cabin fireplace mantle, especially when teamed with an antique leather shot pouch and steer horn flask. About “VG” as described. $295
