Description:
The .22 HP cartridge was created in 1912 by Charles Newton and produced by Savage Arms for the Model 1899 rifle. It was based on the .25-35 Winchester necked down to accept a .227/.228 inch bullet. Note: The bottom of the receiver is marked: Robert Ransford, 1017 N. 64th St., Philadelphia, PA.. It is estimated that fewer than 1,000 engraved 99's were ever produced with about only 100 of those in a "Take-Down" version, making this rifle very rare. Please note that this rifle was professionally refinished at some point in the past.

Metal Condition: Very good to excellent - a few handling marks with almost 100% of the blueing remaining
Wood Condition: Very good - some dings and scratches, mostly light
Bore Condition: Excellent bright with strong rifling
Barrels: 20 Inch tapered round barrel marked "Savage" (with their address), and on the left side "Savage High Pressure Steel" and "Model 1899".
Stock: Nicely checkered ogse shaped pistol grip stock of oil finished select perch belly American walnut.
