W.J. Jeffery & Co. Falling Block Single Shot, circa 1898, .303 British, 8 lbs. 3 oz., 25 1/2" barrel with beautiful integral full length rib transitioning to a mid-way quarter rib holding a long sight package including one standing leaf and four standard folding leaves covering out to 500 yards and an additional tall folding adjustable leaf meant to be a long range up to 1000 yard leaf, integral front sight, bottom barrel mounted front swivel, Farquharson style falling block action with beautiful patina of faded original case colors, border engraved with left side engraved "W.J. Jeffery & Co. 13 King Street St. James Street, London" in a circle ribbon, right side of action has lever mounted safety with "Safe" engraved on action, original English walnut stock with horn forend tip and pistol grip, 13 7/8" LOP over an engraved steel butt plate with trap door meant to hold a cleaning rod, rear swivel. English cordite proof marks. Rifle is in very good condition with a very good shootable bore with a little frosting as expected but with still well defined rifling, wood has some light handling marks, factory drilled top tang peep sight holes and the plug screws are missing. Outside the Gibbs-Farquharson rifles, the Jeffery falling blocks were probably the best known and very well made. This one has been cared for and left alone to patina to just that perfect look.
