Description:
This Colt Model 1883 12 gauge shotgun, manufactured in 1890, is properly restored to bring it back to a condition similar to what it would have been in after a few years of use by the original owner.  The stock and forearm are high grade English walnut, and reconditioning and a hand-rubbed stock oil finish have brought back their original beauty.  The color case hardening was redone by Classic Guns in Crete, IL.  The 30” fine Damascus steel barrels are properly refinished using the traditional slow rust blue and etching process.  The bores are in excellent condition.  The engraving on the receiver is deep and clear.

The barrels are choked LM (.015) and LM (.015).  The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is 033/.028/.028 and at the middle of the barrel is .038/.025/.030; the left barrel is .030/.032/.032 and .028/.030/.033, respectively.  Bores 9” from the breech are .741/.741 respectively.  Chambers are 2-3/4”.  The gun locks up tight and on face.  This shotgun weighs 7lbs 12 oz.  The drop at the comb is 2” and at the heel 3-1/4”.  Length of pull is 14-1/4” to the end of the original butt plate.  All serial numbers, 4686, match.

The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  This shotgun has been fired on the sporting clays range using low pressure 2-3/4” shells produced for Damascus-barreled shotguns by RST Corporation.  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, and especially one a hundred and twenty-five years old, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.  The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.  The listed price of the gun does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Stephen Wesbrook, 703-625-4830; Back in Time, LLC  --  preserving late 19th and early 20th Century double shotguns.
