SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1888 RAMROD BAYONET TRAPDOOR RIFLE CIRCA 1890. .45-70 Govt. caliber. Excellent and all original and correct. 70% plus original blue overall with the breechblock having muted case hardening remaining. Stock with most of the original finish with nice handling patina and a crisp “SWP/1890” cartouche. Crisp “EAGLE/U.S./SPRINGFIELD”. Circled “P” proof behind the guard. Regimental rack numbers forward of the butt plate tang (D/44). Hammer and tang screw heads with some slot damage otherwise screws near mint. Fine working order and mint bore. Original bayonet. Nice cartouche date corresponding to the Indian War Battle of Wounded Knee.
